Maniac302 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I accidentally put two locomotives nose to nose, but when I tried to tell one of them to back up, I was told that I had instructed the driver to return to a previous location without setting the opposite route. What does this mean? How do I do that? He's kind of stopped across a signal. I tried setting a route in front of him, to no avail. I also tried setting the signal behind him to proceed, with the same bad result.
signalsoftRC Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 let me explain following: clearing a "opposite" route for a backing up movement. Imagine I set a route from track XYZ startsignal 123 to track ABC. The train stops unexpectedly in the switches just before entering ABC... Now you're kind of stuck. It's a baaaad situation that you always should avoid by good planning. but yes.. it happens :-) To back-up that train do following: Set a route AGAIN from signal 123 to track ABC. Use the option "running on sight" (restricted speed) to get the signal 123 showing a proceed aspect. Ensure that the track XYZ is CLEAR! and no other route is set into track XYZ. (potential crash) Now you can instruct the driver to back up with 10 km/h and return to track XYZ. Give him a chance to turnaround and lots of time to return to track XYZ. remember 10 km/h is sloooow. If you would stand at signal 123 and look at signal 123 you would see the train coming TOWARDS you. (hence the expression "opposite route" or "opposite clear". The driver can't see that signal 123 of course, as he's approaching it from the back side. This procedure is a very safe way to create a auxiliary route to enable trains to proceed safely.
Maniac302 Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Yeah, I went back after posting that, and figured it out on the 3rd or 4th try. Thanks anyway.
Maniac302 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 Uhhhh, I've had a little incident. I sent a loco to couple with a train on sp24(loc>4803), but he apparently didn't clear the switch. So, I set a ROS route from sp51 to sp24, and told him to back up. But I was still fired. Why? I've checked and double checked, I set the opposite route to the track loc>4803.
signalsoftRC Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 mmm... does it say why you're fired? so at first sight it looks correct to me, but there are a bunch of other conditions I can't see on the picture/know form your text for the reason why you're fired.
Maniac302 Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 It said I was fired for sending a train back to a previous location without setting the opposite route.
signalsoftRC Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Too little information still... what I think what happened is that you gave the wrong loco the turnaround order (another one that was located on track 24, some loco between buffer end and the one that lights up the track occupancy light in 43 switch). That's a reason for being fired too. Keep track of where each consist is! If you do hairy cases like this, save the simulation (CTRL+S), then do the "hairy thing". If it goes wrong you can continue by reloading the simulation again. In this case you would have been able to send me the .sim file and I could have a look.
