Köln Hbf and Windows 8.1

Dear SignalSoft team,

My new PC runs Windows 8.1 ; I've tried setting up my licensed version of Köln Hbf (the only setup files I have here are v.2.3.0.44, and I was hoping that the Update tool would upgrade me to a more recent version), but the application just does not start: when I double click on the app icon, I immediately get the "Zentrallstellwerk Köln Hbf stopped working" error in Windows. I have tried running the application under various compatibility modes (such as Windows 7 and Windows XP SP3), to no avail.

Am I the only one with such an issue?

Thanks - Yannick.

Just install .NET 2.0 and you're fine.

if you get immediately the message that a .NET application can't start, it's because of missing or corrupt .NET files.... In that case it's NOT our program.

Hi Yannick,

i use since first time Windows 8 and 8.1... This operating system is terrible, i have many problems with programms, too.

Windows 8 and 8.1 grab deep in your accessright.

Try to install all new programms with admin-right, same if you install something, also the installer with admin-rights.

I can advise to all: Dont change a running system and dont use Windows 8.1!!!

Thanks, guys. Your help is appreciated. I'll keep on investigating around .NET, but as far as I can see, it's already installed. And by the way, the Teaching Tool (http://www.signalsimulation.com/downloads/KoelnHbfDemo.zip) works fine. Does it rely on .NET 2.0 too?

If I can find what was wrong, I'll let you know, so that it can help others.

Have a nice day.

-Yannick.

Hi all,

Despite the age of this thread, here is my modest contribution. It seems that Yannick is/was facing the same problem I have faced with Braunschweig Hbf and other sims/demos (e.g. Amsterdam).

Besides .NET 2.0, one should consider deleting the (Windows)/User/(YourUserName]/AppData/Local/SIGNALSOFT_Rail_Consultan folder related to the faulty simulation (here Köln Hbf) and then restart the simulation. It is how I have fixed the problem on my side. And it seems that it is a known way to fix the problem among other users here.
