Defective Train Calls In Waiting Signal.

Running sim version 3.7.0.5 with the latest timetable, train 4929 1037 Wurzburg - Stuttgart calls in from Gl.002 stating defective train. A few minutes later 4929 calls in again waiting signal but he has not yet reported his train in order. I clear signal P002 but 4929 does not move. I call ZBF to put me through to 4949 and ask why he isn't moving, to which he replies he has a penalty brake application so I return the signal to red. A few minutes later 4929 calls up to again report standing at red signal P002. I clear the signal again but still he does not move.

Is this a sim bug?

Phil.

PS I wanted to attach a saved simulation but the file size is too large.

Hi Phil,

seems as if you play with malfunctioning and two things came together.

Firstly, a train calls up when waiting too long in front of a red signal. This happens automatically after about 5 to 7 minutes waiting for passenger trains.

Secondly, a train calls up when having a problem that hinders to continue its ride. Normally this happens somewhere on its route. This is a malfunction feature.

As this malfunction (penalty brake) occured exactly when arriving at the platform (not really realistic for shunting trains there), the system probably cannot combine these two functions to a common realistic one.

I guess it would be the best to clear the signal and wait until the train starts to move.

Edit: Perhaps you first play the sim without malfunction. There are often times that you have your hands full with the regular traffic, even when playing without delays. Try a Tuesday or Thursday, even in the night time.

Hi Helmut,

When 4929 called up the second time (around 1055hrs) I cleared the signal and left it. It is now 1123 and I have a queue of trains waiting to go towards Heidingsfeld and still 4929 has not moved so I saved the sim there then restarted from 1030.

I have noticed that unlike some sims (eg Wuppertal Oberbarmen), Wurzburg does not clear signals and run a few trains when you start a new sim, so the sim always starts with no trains present. I don't consider it to be a real issue, but it just seems odd to not have any trains around when a new sim starts. As I have said in a previous post, I am really enjoying this excellent sim.

Ok, this seems to be a bug. Please report if something similar will happen. Please keep your saved sims. If you want to send it later please use the feedback e-mail address.

What you mean is a pre-simulation, I think. This feature is not realized for Würzburg.
Perhaps that's because there are a lot of trains in your area of responsibility after ten minutes playing. And it is pretty advisable to have an eye on the trains already when they show up (planning staff release and so on). There also many shunt movements that would not be able to move while running this pre-simulation.

Perhaps you let the sim run quick (4x) for the first five, six, seven minutes. That is the same function like the pre-simulation only a little bit slower. And you have the advantage to see what happens from the beginning.

I can see how pre-simulation could be complicated in a complex sim such as Wurzburg. It wasn't a complaint, simply an observation.

ha... sounds like a catch 22 in the "why should the driver call in" routine... call in for a failure, stand for a while, call in for a red signal, while still at failure....

let me look into that. (might not happen within next two weeks though. Very busy)

That is a very old bug.

Also present in Hengelo and Amsterdam.

Reported this bug some 6 years ago.
