Reserve Unit on Tk.461

Recommended Posts

Running the latest timetable, train 'Reserve' standing on Tk.461 becomes staffed and appears in the Train Overview window, with movement instructions to go to TaWa Tk.415. The driver doesn't call up to say he is waiting for the signal, so do I keep him on 461 in case required to form a train or do I run him to TaWa and out of the sim?

Regards,

Phil.

PS I've noticed that none of the shunting movements call up ready to move, so unless you have the Train Overview (cheat) window open you will never know they are waiting.

The reserve is standing outside the area Ta/Wa during the night not to block space over there for other trains or movements. When there is space enough in the area of Ta/Wa it goes there and waits for its next mission; maybe alone or in combination with a second part. So one of the next trains (or a part of it) coming out of Ta/Wa will be this reserve.

One of the incoming trains during the day going to Ta/Wa will be prepared and will become the next reserve coming out of 415 and will be placed again on 461.

This is done not to let one train standing there for days or weeks on track 461. If you want, you can use this train as reserve train by your own and send instead of another (defect or delayed) one to the platform.

Yes, that's correct. We've done this because you already get so many calls from cargo trains for drivers' release or coupling/uncoupling trains. But there is always time enough for the shunt movement. Anyway you need to have the train overview window open for all the remarks.

And for the movements out of Ta/Wa you've got a PDF-file as download.

I do have the Train Overview window open all the time Helmut, but I know some players like to run their sims without it. I agree, there are plenty of phone calls to answer from train crews waiting to relieve the freight trains.

I will run this Reserve unit to TaWa and wait for another unit to appear to stable on Tk.461. I have the PDF file for the TaWa shunt movements.

I'm sure nobody is able to run this sim without train overview window for longer than 10 or 20 minutes if one wants to let the trains ride without additional delay or sending them to the wrong place.

I did try to run without it open, but had to open it after just a few minutes.

I don't know what train-running computers they have in German signal boxes (Stellwerke), but in the UK most major boxes have a computer screen showing the line-up of approaching trains for the signalman (fahrdienstleiter) to look at, and I use the Train Overview window in the same way.

In Germany they have a similar system. All upcoming trains are shown in a list on a computer. Every signalman has it at his working place. I've seen it on several signal boxes.

There is also a system called LEIDIS that shows all trains in the wider area around your location as a plan. You can see the moving trains and the delay. Signalmen have access to this system as well as dispatchers of railway companies.

We have something similar to that, a mapping screen called Control System of the Future (CCF for short), where trains can be seen over a wide area..
